Here we come, friends! Ahí les vamos! Sonorama Discos is excited to announce several projects in the works this year. Si señores! New heat for your turntables is currently in production and here’s a taste of what you can expect.
Currently Chicago based, Bumbac Joe, is a Lima-born Venezuelan who infuses his blend of electronic beat making with the Afro-Peruvian and Venezuelan traditions along with a healthy dose of Caribbean flavors all geared to ignite the dance floor on fire. This spring we’re pressing two sides of heat from Bumbac’s recent EP, “Hot Revolution” and believe us it is indeed going to be a hot revolución.
From San Bernardino, Califas. we travel with the band YANGA to la costa de Colombia and its cumbia rhythms. With the insistent chiki chiki cha de la guacharaca y a golpe de tambo, Yanga weaves Afro-Colombian folklore into a new original tune titled “El Lobo”. If a new single wasn’t enough, Chico Mann of Antibalas fame delivers a remix with his distinct electro-afro estilo on the flip-side.
Last up, we are proud to co-release the latest LP from Mexico City’s Los Músicos de José, a project we’re really excited to see come together. Since 1996, these seasoned lovers of jazz and funky sounds have refined a unique groove. On this upcoming release, they pay tribute to an artist whose genius we undeniably appreciate. We speak none other than the Cuban and adopted Mexican, Damaso Pérez Prado. With a career that never lagged behind the current trends of popular music, Pérez Prado adapted his mambo sound to everything from go-go sounds to pure funk, along the way leaving numerous classics that can still ignite any fiesta. Drawing from Prado’s vast catalog, Los Músicos de José, deliver a funky tribute to one of Latin America’s true classics. This release is a co-release with long-time friends Ducado Records from Cholula, Puebla.
That’s what we have in store for now, but stay tuned because we’re not done yet. Vamos a sacarle mucho jugo al 2016!
